Thursday, this week, it has been known that the South Korean Car Manufacturer Hyundai was affected by a data breach that compromised confidential information from clients and individuals. “The hackers behind the incident accessed customers’ personal information such as email addresses, physical addresses, telephone numbers, and vehicle chassis numbers. But not their identification numbers or financial information.” said Hyundai.
“Although there is no evidence that the data concerned have been used for fraudulent purposes, out of extreme caution, we invite you to pay particular attention and to verify any contact attempt via e-mail, mail and text message that may appear to come from Hyundai Italia or by other entities of the Hyundai Group,” said Hyundai Italia in a letter that was also delivered to the automaker’s French car owners. Hyundai also says they engaged IT experts in response to the incident, who have taken the impacted systems offline until additional security measures are implemented.
It is unclear how many customers this incident impacted, how long the network intrusion lasted, and what other countries might be affected. Still, Hyundai takes precautionary actions and warns to stay vigilant if anyone receives suspicious emails or phone calls claiming to be with Hyundai Group.
