Employee Pleads Guilty to Embezzling Over $500,000 from Missouri Company

Tammy Myers, a 50-year-old woman from Independence, Missouri, admitted guilt in federal court for stealing more than $500,000 from her employer, Builders Overhead Door Service, Inc. Employed at the company from 1998 to 2022, Myers, who served as the head of accounting since 2012, confessed to a wire fraud scheme conducted from January 2013 to December 2022.

As part of her fraudulent activities, Myers utilised the company’s bank account information to settle personal credit card balances, totalling $429,025. Additionally, she wrote unauthorised cheques to herself from the company’s account, depositing $86,477 into her personal bank account for personal expenses.

The plea agreement mandates Myers to pay $521,996 in restitution to the company, covering the total loss and related criminal activities. Furthermore, she must pay a $429,025 money judgment to the government. During her embezzlement, Myers allowed the company to fall behind on payroll, real estate, and sales and use taxes.

Myers faces a potential federal prison sentence of up to 20 years without parole. The sentencing will be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and statutory factors after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.
